Orlando Falls to Stingrays 4-2

Charleston, SC - The Orlando Solar Bears dropped a 4-2 decision to the South Carolina Stinrays at the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday night.

The Stingrays came out firing in the first period, and notched the first goal of the contest 16:08 into the frame. F Chad Painchaud found a loose puck in the slot and tucked it just under the pad of G John Curry. Orlando answered back less than two minutes later when forward C.J. Severyn snapped a rebound off the pad of G Jeff Jakaitis the D Bryce Aneloski slammed home to even the score. G John Curry stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced in the frame.

Orlando took their first lead of the game 13:00 into the second stanza. F Zach Harrison swatted a bouncing puck out of mid-air from just on top of the goal-mouth for his team-leading third goal of the year. Severyn and F Mike Ullrich assisted on the goal. A late period power play helped South Carolina tie the contest when F Lindsay Sparks rolled a puck just over the line for the game-tying marker with just 49 seconds to go in the period.

Less than three minutes into the third period, South Carolina took the lead for good. D Scooter Vaughn backhanded a pass through the slot to F Scott Campbell who tallied his fifth goal of the season on a one-timer from the slot to put the Stingrays ahead 3-2. F Patrick Gaul put the game away from the Stingrays on a broken play, deflecting the puck behind Curry with 5:47 left in the contest for the final 4-2 score.

Notes:

Orlando was the league-leader in PIM coming into tonight's game, but took just two penalty minutes... D Bryce Aneloski notched his first regular season professional goal. He scored a playoff goal last season... G John Curry set a Solar Bears season high for saves in a period stopping 16 of 17 shots in the first period... Orlando will play back-to-back road games tomorrow for the first time this season... The Solar Bears allowed their first power play goal of the year tonight. They had killed off 23 straight power plays prior to South Carolina's second period power play goal.
