Boise, ID (10/29/13) - The Idaho Steelheads, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced Tuesday that forward Anthony Nigro has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for October 21 - 27.

The 23-year-old Nigro had six points (four goals, two assists) as Idaho won two of its three games last week. It is the 13th time a Steelhead player has been honored as the ECHL Player of the Week and first since Mark Derlago won the award in March of 2011.

It started on Wednesday when Nigro buried the game-tying goal with 18 seconds left in regulation and added the game-winner less than two minutes into overtime to beat San Francisco . After picking up an assist on Friday night in Colorado, he notched two more goals - including a short-handed goal - in a 5-4 victory over the Eagles on Saturday.

Nigro is in his first season with the Steelheads after spending the past three seasons in the St. Louis Blues organization. The Woodbridge, Ontario, native was a sixth-round selection by the Blues in the 2008 NHL Draft.

On behalf of Anthony Nigro, a case of pucks will be donated to an Idaho youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood"ˆHockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 29,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

The team returns to action Friday and Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena in Boise when it hosts the Ontario Reign. Puck drop is 7:10 PM each night.

Group outings at a Steelheads game are a great way to gather friends, colleagues, or co-workers for a fun night out in downtown Boise.
