DULUTH, Ga. - The Gwinnett Gladiators were assigned reigning ECHL Defenseman of the Year Sacha Guimond on Tuesday by the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. In addition, the Gladiators have released defenseman Brad Nunn.

Guimond (pronounced SAH-SHA GEE-mon), 22, was pointless in two games for the Comets so far this season, after playing in six AHL contests between the Worcester Sharks and Norfolk Admirals last season. The Ville-Marie, Quebec native put up huge numbers in a Gladiator uniform after being acquired from the San Francisco Bulls via trade during the 2012-13 campaign, racking up five goals and 19 assists in just 25 games. He also had six points (two goals, four assists) in ten playoff games for Gwinnett.

In addition to being named the Defenseman of the Year, Guimond was also named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team and All-ECHL First Team, and was tops among league defensemen in power-play goals (9) and points (29).

The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league and are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
