
Orlando Arcia Named Southern League Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced today that Biloxi Shuckers shortstop Orlando Arcia has earned Player of the Week honors for May 25 through May 31. This is the first player or pitcher of the week honor for the Biloxi Shuckers franchise.
Arcia, the second-youngest player in the Southern League leads the league in batting (.341), doubles (17), ranks second in hits (62), runs scored (33), fourth in total bases (90) and fifth in extra-base hits (21). Arcia is also the toughest in the Southern League to strikeout (1/12.63 AB). Overall this season he is batting .341 with three home runs, 25 RBI, five stolen bases and a .393 on-base percentage.
In five games played last week, Arcia continued his impressive 2015 campaign with a league high 10 hits, six extra-base hits, 18 total bases, and five doubles. In addition, he posted top-five numbers with a .455 batting average, six runs, five RBI, an .818 slugging percentage and OPS of 1.296. The Anaco, Venezuela native had more than one hit in four of his five contests, ripping three base hits in two of those games. His biggest night came in the Shuckers 11-8 win at Chattanooga on May 30. In a game that pitted the loop's two division leaders, Arcia went 3-for-6 with three runs, three hits, a pair of doubles and an RBI. This is his second career Player of the Week award after he garnered Florida State League honors on June 30 of last year.
Righthander Jake Brigham of the Mississippi Braves was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
Biloxi starts a series in Birmingham tonight at Regions Field, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. CT. LHP Hobbs Johnson will start the series opener for Biloxi and be opposite RHP Myles Jaye for the Barons.
The Shuckers will open MGM Park with the inaugural game on Saturday, June 6 at 7:10 p.m. vs. the Mobile BayBears. MGM Park gates will open at 5:00 pm on Opening Night so that fans can come early to roam the facility and soak up the excitement. The game is sold out, but Individual game tickets remain for June 7-10.
