BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham offense exploded for 10 runs while the pitching staff silenced the Biloxi bats Monday in a 10-0 win at Regions Field. Eight of nine batters in the Barons lineup recorded hits, and three hurlers combined to toss a three-hitter in the first of five against the Shuckers.

Starter Myles Jaye (3-3, 3.73 ERA) allowed just two hits, walked three and struck out six over six innings of work. Relievers Blake Smith and J.B. Wendelken threw the final two innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three collectively. Shuckers lefty Hobbs Johnson (3-2, 3.26 ERA) received the loss, going 5.1 and allowing four runs on seven hits.

Outfielder Brian Fletcher was 2-for-3 with a walk and four RBI, and began the offensive tear in the first with an RBI groundout. He tacked on another run in the third on an RBI single to center to put the Barons ahead 2-0. Second baseman Joey DeMichele contributed the third run with an RBI single in the sixth. Jeremy Farrell made it a 4-0 game on a sacrifice fly to right to score Danny Hayes from third.

A wild pitch from Martin Viramontes in the seventh allowed Tim Anderson to score easily from third, and a Fletcher sac fly later in the inning pushed the lead to 6-0.

Anderson finished his night 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, driving in both of his runs in the eighth with his fifth triple of the season. Centerfielder Jacob May singled home Anderson, and Fletcher doubled to right to plate two in the same inning to put double digits in the Birmingham score column.

May ended the night 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored, including his league-leading 25th stolen base. Christian Marrero, Adrian Nieto, Marcus Lemon and Hayes each had one hit.

Game two of the series begins at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Regions Field. Tuesday is 50-cent Hot Dog Night, Social Media Night and Faith Night. Former big leaguer Bill Buckner will also be in attendance Tuesday as part of the Financial Dreams Tour presented by Principal Financial. Buckner will throw out the first pitch and sign autographs on the concourse. By engaging with the team on social media, fans have the chance to win a number of Barons prizes, and church groups of 10 or more are eligible for ticket discounts on Faith Night.
