
Ontario Reigns Supreme Over Las Vegas 4-1

Ontario, CA - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (1-3-1, 3 points) were defeated by the Ontario Reign (3-1-0, 6 points) 4-1 at Citizen's Business Bank Arena on Saturday night. Ontario goalie Jeff Zatkoff stopped 34 Las Vegas shots, including 17 in the second period to lead the Reign to victory. Ontario's Todd Jackson had a goal and an assist in the Reign's home opener. Defenseman David Walker's second period power-play goal proved to be the game winner. Ontario stopped all seven Las Vegas power plays. Forward Matt Beaudoin scored the lone Las Vegas goal. The Wranglers will host Stockton on Halloween at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena.
In the first period, the two teams skated to a scoreless tie for the first 18 minutes of play. The Reign tallied the first goal of the night at 18:11. Forward Todd Jackson dropped off a centering pass for Dan Knapp. The Ontario defenseman rifled a one-timer over the glove of Las Vegas goalie Martin Houle for the 1-0 lead at 18:11.
In the second period, the two teams traded goals with Ontario striking first to claim a 2-0 lead. Center Jon Francisco sent a cross-ice pass to defenseman David Walker at 2:44. The Reign defenseman scored off the back-door feed for his first goal of the season and a power-play goal for Ontario. Las Vegas countered later in the period at 5:01. Mick Lawrence tipped the puck to Matt Beaudoin off a face-off in the Ontario zone. Beaudoin snapped a quick wrist shot past Reign goalie Jeff Zatkoff for his first goal of the season, trimming the Ontario lead to 2-1. Las Vegas outshot Ontario 18-1 in the second period.
In the third period, the Ferraro twins were each whistled for penalties at 6:28, giving Ontario a five-on-three power play. The Reign capitalized on the back half of the power play as Todd Jackson scored his first of the season at 8:51 for a 3-1 Ontario lead. The Reign scored off a turnover just over three minutes later at 11:53. Center Tim Krauss set up Ryan Bowness with a one-timer in the slot for his first tally of the season and a 4-1 final score.
