Dayton Bombers News Release

Cincinnati, OH - The Dayton Bombers beat the reigning Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones 3-1 tonight at the Cyclones' home opener with a pair of power play goals from Dan Riedel. The Bombers are off to a 3-0 start on the season.

The Cyclones got on the board first when Matt Syroczynski snuck a rebound past Bombers starter David Shantz during a Cincinnati power play half way through the first period. Just over five minutes later Riedel would even the score on a Dayton power play with assists from Jim Henkemeyer and Justin Bowers. At the end of the first, the score was tied at a goal a piece and five shots a piece.

Although the second period saw four power play opportunities each for the Cyclones and Bombers, Shantz and Cincinnati goaltender Kyle Gajewski denied every shot they faced. Following the frame, the Cyclones led the Bombers in shots 20-13.

It was all Dayton in the third as Bowers netted his first goal of the season from Christian Gaudet less than two minutes into the period. Riedel secured an insurance goal later in the frame on the power play, his second of the night. Joe Van Culin and Jarret Lukin recorded the helpers.

Shantz earned his second win in as many games, saving 24 of 25 shots. Gajewski was 17 of 20. The Bombers finished the game 2 of 10 on the power play and 7 of 8 on the penalty kill.

Dayton returns to the Nutter Center on Saturday, November 1 as they take on the Cyclones at 7:30 p.m. The next day the Johnstown Chiefs come to town for a 5:00 p.m. contest. Tickets are on sale now at the Nutter Center box office or any Ticketmaster outlet.
