Bakersfield Condors News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors made their first trip to Fresno this season, and came up just short, falling 3-2 to the Fresno Falcons before 6,000 fans at Selland Arena.
Tensions were high early with the first penalties coming 28 seconds in, and it was special teams that led to the first period goals. F Matt Pope opened up the scoring for the Condors (1-2-0, 2 points) at 3:52 with a shorthanded tally, tucking a backhander inside the post. Fresno (2-0-0, 4 points) tied it up on the power play with just under six minutes left, on a goal by C Mike Radja. Shots were 10-10 after one.
Fresno took the play to the Condors in the middle frame, but couldn't get another shot past rookie G Joey Perricone, making his professional debut. He stopped 14 shots in the frame, while Bakersfield had just three shots in the period, and it stayed 1-1.
The tie did not last long in the third period, as Fresno pulled ahead with a shorthanded goal by C Peter MacArthur at 2:42. However, the Condors answered 35 seconds later, when D Tyler Scott beat Fresno G Joe Fallon with a slap shot on the power play, tying the game, 2-2. The Falcons again pulled ahead with a goal from F Matt Stefanishion on a 5-on-3 power play at 7:17. Despite a furious finish to the third by the Condors, they were denied the equalizer, and Fresno's 3-2 lead went final. Perricone finished with 30 saves on 33 shots.
