Nailers steal point from Devils

WHEELING,WV- The Wheeling Nailers, the ‘AA' affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Wilkes -Barr/ Scranton Penguins, fell to the Trenton Devils Saturday night 5-3 in a shootout.

The Devils got on the board in the first period when Ryan Gunderson beat Nailers goalie Curtis Darling on the power play to make it 1-0 Trenton.

In the second period the Devils would extend their lead to two when Matt Cohen tallied his first goal of the season on the power play to make it 2-0. Aaron Clarke would get the Nailers on the board when he beat Trenton goalie Jeff Frazee on the power play at 3:33. The goal was Clarkes fourth of the season. At 7:11 Trenton would regain the two goal lead on their third power play goal of the night by Chris Poli. The second period would end 3-1

In the third period the Nailers would charge back into the game with three third period goals. Goals by Tommy Goebel, Nick Johnson and Rob Sirianni would even the score at 4. Regulation would end tied at 4.

Neither team could score in overtime and the game would be decided in the shootout. Trenton would score two goals in the shoot out to take the additional point and hand the Nailers their first shoot out loss of the season.

The Nailers and Devils will do battle again on Sunday afternoon to close out the Pink in the Rink weekend. Game time is set for 1:35pm. Fans can skate with the Nailers following the game. For tickets call 304-234-4625 or online at www.wheelingnailers.com
