Salmon Kings Slip In Home Opener

Victoria, BC - When the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met on Friday it kicked off the Salmon Kings home schedule. Goaltender Todd Ford started in net for the Kings while the Thunder countered with Bryan Pitton.

Stockton got on the board first as Justin Chewdoruk was able to beat Todd Ford for the 1-0 lead. The Salmon Kings tied it up late in the stanza after Wes Goldie fired home a power play marker. The teams would head to the dressing rooms tied 1-1 after the first period.

Back-and-forth action was on the menu for the second period. Stockton jumped out quickly in the second when Garret Hunt slipped a puck past Ford for the 2-1 lead. The Kings responded when Dan Gendur took a pass from Chris St. Jacques and deposited it behind Pitton for his first professional goal. A mere 36 seconds later Stockton retook the lead when Hunt scored his second of the night tipping a shot past Ford. The Thunder would lead 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Stockton made it 4-2 with a power play marker early in the third after a goal by Mike Lalonde. Stockton would round out the scoring with a goal by Bryan Lerg later in the period. Thunder 5 Salmon Kings 2.

Victoria went 1/5=20% on the power play and Stockton ended 2/8=25%. The teams tied in shots netting 32 apiece. The attendance for the night was 6,602.

These two teams meet again tomorrow night as the Salmon Kings celebrate their 5th Anniversary by dawning third jerseys.
