Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs found themselves on the wrong end of a blowout loss on Monday, falling 12-2 to Wichita at Haymarket Park. Lincoln drops to 17-12 on the second half of the season.

The Wingnuts exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth inning, erasing a 1-0 Saltdogs lead. Lincoln starter Brian Campbell (3-5) gave up a leadoff home run in the frame, followed by a pair of walks, before departing the contest with an undisclosed injury. Wichita then teed off against the Saltdogs bullpen, putting up three more extra-base hits in the frame and walking away with an 8-1 advantage. The Wingnuts added another run in the sixth inning, and then scored twice in the eighth and once in the ninth off of Lincoln infielder Steve Alexander, who came on to pitch for the first time this season.

Lincoln had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, on a sacrifice fly by Shea McFeely. They scored their other run of the night in the eighth inning, when Jake Jadlowski hit an RBI groundout. The Saltdogs hit five doubles in the game, but only one of them resulted in a run. Pichi Balet and Albenis Machado had the only multi-hit nights for the Saltdogs. Machado went 2-for-4 with a double, while Balet went 2-for-3 with a double.

The two teams play game two of their four-game series Tuesday night at 7:05. Righty Tim Brown will make the start for Lincoln.
