August 10, 2009 El Paso, TX - El Paso Diablos starting pitcher Justin Mallett was selected as the American Association Pitcher of the Week. Mallett becomes the second Diablo to win the award this season, joining Josh Nietz on the list who won the award in the first week of July.

Mallett was rewarded for his complete game shutout effort on August 4 against Lincoln. Mallett allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out six against the Saltdogs, who are in first place in the North Division. The shutout was the first complete game shutout of Mallett's career, and it follows his first ever complete game win. Over his last two starts Mallett has allowed only two runs on eight hits in 18 innings while racking up 13 strikeouts in that time.

Mallett has now made 11 starts this season for El Paso and holds a 4-4 record with a 3.68 ERA. He will be on the mound on Monday night when the Diablos open a series against Sioux City with first pitch slated for 6:05.
