Pensacola Pelicans News Release
SITE: Pelican Park in Pensacola, FL (August 10-12, 2009)
TIME: 6:35 p.m. Central Time on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
ABOUT THE SERIES:
The Pelicans and Air Hogs have split the series to date, with each club claiming ten wins. The last time the Pelicans played the Air Hogs was in Grand Prairie on Thursday. The Pels and Air Hogs split that series as well, with Grand Prairie claiming the first two contests, and Pensacola winning the last two. The Pelicans are currently in first, two games ahead of the Shreveport-Bossier Captains. Grand Prairie is in third, two and a half games back.
The Pelicans are coming off a series win against the Fort Worth Cats at home Friday through Sunday. A loss to the Cats on Sunday snapped the Pelicans four-game winning streak.
Grand Prairie travels to Pensacola from Shreveport where the Air Hogs took two of three games from the Captains. The 'Hogs won the bookend games, both by a score of 7-2. They lost the middle match 10-6.
WHO TO WATCH:
Pensacola: Francisco Leandro -OF- This spark plug is hitting .438 in his last five games with seven hits to lead the team. He hit .384 for the entire month of July. This recent hot streak combined with his spectacular month of July has raised his average to a respectable .290.
Adam Brandenburg -LHP- The 6'6" 225 pound lefty put together his best start of the season last time out when the Pels really needed it. Against the Grand Prairie Air Hogs he tossed 7 strong innings allowing only four hits and one earned run in his second win, striking out a season high 7 batters. He gets the ball on Tuesday against those same Air Hogs.
Grand Prairie: Cesar Nicolas -3B- A league-best 87 RBI and a .348 average are fine examples of why Nicolas was a South Division All Star on July 21. He also won the home run derby, beating the Pelicans' Chase Burch in the final round, 2-1.
Chad Gabriel -DH- Gabriel can just flat out hit. The DH for the Air Hogs has a fine .335 average to go along with 17 doubles- all of this in only 56 games. He is slugging .489 and gets on base 37% of the time.
