Fort Worth Cats News Release

Jae Jung worked six strong innings as the Cats downed Shreveport-Bossier 4-3 in the series opener on Monday night at Fair Grounds Field.

The win was the Cats' second straight and 45th of the season overall.

The Cats took a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Kelley Gulledge led off with a double and came home to score on a Brian Fryer RBI double. The double extended Fryer's hitting streak to 23 games.

With a runner at third and one out, Cameron Blair hit a fly ball to right that look like it would score Isa Garcia from third, but home plate umpire Wiley Clark inexplicably called Garcia out at the plate, despite the catcher Tommy Bryant appearing to miss the tag. After arguing the call, an irate Chad Tredaway was ejected from the game by Clark.

The Captains would tie the game 1-1 in the fourth on an RBI single by Selwyn Langaigne.

Fort Worth regained the lead in the fifth as Gulledge led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a single by Garcia and scored on a sacrifice fly by Spenser Dennis.

The Cats added two more runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Ryan Patterson and a throwing error by the third baseman Andres Rodriguez to make it 4-1.

In the seventh inning, Bryant led off with a double and Jung left the game favoring his right shoulder. Ryan Trytten allowed an RBI single by Christopher Garcia but then got out of the inning by striking out the side. The Captians pulled to within a run in the eighth as pinch hitter Kevin Griffin delivered a sacrifice fly to center scoring Jose Torres who had led off the inning with a walk.

Scott Vander Weg allowed a two-out single to Rodriguez, but then got Jose Torres to ground to short to end the game, notching his third save of the season.

Jung (6-3) allowed two runs, one earned in six innings of work to earn the victory. Captains starter Ronald Lowe (5-9) took the loss as permitted three earned runs in six innings.

The series continues on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. as Lee Gwaltney makes the start for Fort Worth.
