Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha starting pitcher Foster Griffin fired a quality outing, while shortstop Adalberto Mondesi clubbed two hits, including an RBI triple, and first baseman Erich Weiss drove in a game-high three runs in the Storm Chasers' 8-5 win over the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday night at Werner Park.
Omaha jumped ahead with a four-run opening frame, highlighted by a trio of RBI triples from Mondesi, Weiss and DH Chase d'Arnaud. After Nashville plated a run in the second, Weiss lofted a sacrifice fly to drive in his second run of the night to make it 5-1. He would later answer another single Sounds score in the sixth courtesy of a run-scoring double to center.
After Nashville DH Matt Davidson smashed a solo shot in the eighth, Omaha capped their scoring with a two-run bottom of the eighth that included 3B Taylor Featherston 's RBI single to extend their lead to 8-3. The Sounds would narrow the deficit with a pair of tallies in the final frame, yet the Storm Chasers were able to hold off the late rally attempt.
d'Arnaud (3-4, 3 R, 3B, RBI) posted a team-high three hits, with Mondesi (2-4, R, 3B, RBI) and Weiss (2-3, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI) adding multi-hit efforts. Davidson (3-3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB) and Guzman (2-5, RBI) each recorded two or more knocks in the defeat.
Griffin (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) earned his team-leading eighth victory of the season in his first outing since being named to the All-PCL Team on Monday afternoon. Reliever Richard Lovelady (1.0 IP, H) supported Griffin with a scoreless frame, while Nashville starter Tim Dillard (5.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to continue their four-game series on Wednesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
