Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their road trip and open a four-game road series against the Iowa Cubs at 7:08 p.m. at Principal Park...The Dodgers have won seven of their last nine games overall...OKC has also won 12 of their last 13 series openers, including each of the last seven overall, as well as seven straight road series openers.
Last Game: The Dodgers had Sunday off after splitting a doubleheader Saturday in Memphis. The Redbirds edged OKC, 3-2, in the first game before the Dodgers won the nightcap, 8-5. In Game 1, each team scored in the first inning. Gavin Lux started the game with a triple and scored on a RBI groundout by Will Smith. In the bottom of the inning, Randy Arozarena answered with a home run. In the third inning, Edmundo Sosa connected on a two-run homer to put Memphis ahead, 3-1. In the seventh, DJ Peters led off with a solo home run, pulling the Dodgers within one run. The Dodgers put the tying run on base with two outs, but could not further the rally. Harold Arauz (5-2) picked up the win and Hunter Cervenka earned the save. OKC's Daniel Corcino was credited with the complete game in the loss. Over six innings, Corcino (6-4) allowed three runs (one earned) and three hits...The teams waited more than two-and-a-half hours to start the second game due to a combination of inclement weather and a power outage. OKC erupted for seven runs on six hits in the second inning of Game 2. Jon Kemmer singled home Shane Peterson to start the scoring, and the Dodgers added six more runs with two outs on three straight hits by Connor Joe, Matt Beaty and Edwin RÃos. Lux hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, pushing the lead to 8-0. Memphis then scored five runs between the fourth and fifth innings, but moved no closer. Caleb Ferguson made a spot start and struck out five batters over two scoreless frames. Shea Spitzbarth (1-0) followed Ferguson and was credited with the win. Jaime Schultz worked a scoreless sixth before Kevin Quackenbush earned his seventh save. Chris Ellis (3-5) took the loss for Memphis.
Today's Probable Pitchers: Tony Gonsolin (1-2) returns from the Injured List to make his 10th start of the season with OKC...He went to the IL July 3 (retroactive to July 2) following his July 1 start at Nashville. Gonsolin allowed four runs and six hits over 3.2 innings and was charged with the loss in OKC's 4-3 defeat...The start was his first since making his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers June 26 at Arizona. He allowed six runs (four earned) and six hits, including a home run, over 4.0 innings in the loss...Gonsolin missed more than five weeks after going to the IL in mid-April with a side strain...In games with OKC he's holding PCL opponents to a .224 batting average and has 35 strikeouts in 29.2 IP...Gonsolin entered the season ranked as the Dodgers' No. 8 prospect by Baseball America after being named the 2018 Dodgers' Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year, when he led Dodgers minor league pitchers in ERA (2.60), wins (10) and K's (155)...The Dodgers selected Gonsolin in the ninth round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of St. Mary's College...Tonight is his second start against the I-Cubs. On April 13 in Des Moines, Gonsolin picked up the win, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings and held Iowa to two hits with three walks and four K's.
Mitchell White (3-4) is set to piggyback Gonsolin's start...White last pitched 5.1 shutout innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Round Rock in OKC July 5, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts and picked up the win in OKC's 1-0 shutout victory. He retired 16 of the first 18 batters he faced, including 11 straight at one point...White has now allowed a total of three runs and nine hits over his last three starts (12.2 IP)...In seven starts with Double-A Tulsa, White went 1-0 with a 2.10 ERA. He owned a .165 opponent's average and 0.83 WHIP and held opponents scoreless in four of his seven starts while racking up 37 strikeouts over 30.0 IP...White entered the 2019 season rated as the Dodgers' No. 9 prospect by Baseball America...He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round (65th overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Santa Clara University.
Against the I-Cubs: 2019: 3-5 2018: 11-5 All-time: 154-155 At IOW: 72-83 The Dodgers and Cubs meet for their third series of the season, but for the first time since April...Iowa won a four-game set in OKC April 19-22, with the I-Cubs winning the first three games before the Dodgers won the series finale. Iowa outscored OKC, 34-16, during the series...The Dodgers split a four-game series at Iowa April 13-15...Will Smith paces the Dodgers with six RBI so far in the season series, while Kyle Garlick has a team-high eight hits. Each player has two homers against Iowa...After winning just five games all season against the Dodgers in 2018, the I-Cubs have already matched that total through eight matchups in 2019, with wins in five of the last seven games...OKC outscored the I-Cubs, 64-43, last season, but have been outscored, 45-33, so far this season...The Dodgers have won the last two season series against Iowa, as well as three of the last four...Going back to last season, Iowa is 8-4 over last 12 games against OKC.
Luxury Tax: Across both games Saturday, Gavin Lux went 3-for-7 with a triple and home run and scored three times...Lux has now hit safely in each of his first 11 Triple-A games and is batting .478 (22x46) to go along with a .528 OBP and .828 SLG. He's tallied six multi-hit games, 11 extra-base hits, 11 RBI and 16 runs scored...Since joining the Dodgers on June 27, Lux leads the PCL in batting average and ranks third with a 1.382 OPS...The 21-year-old leads also Dodgers full-season minor leaguers with a .338 AVG and 103 hits.
Go DJ, That's My DJ: DJ Peters went 2-for-3 with a home run in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader and has now reached base in each of his fist 15 Triple-A games. He's tallied three straight multi-hit games and has five in his last seven games, going 11-for-22...Peters is slashing .396/.493/.755 with the Dodgers and has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games, batting .412 (21x51) with 10 extra-base hits and 14 RBI.
CoJo's Bite: Connor Joe grounded into a forceout as a pinch hitter to end Game 1 Saturday, thereby snapping a 14-game on-base streak. During Game 2, he went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored...Over the last 16 games he's batting .412 (21x51) and has five homers, five doubles, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored and 15 walks. Since June 27, Joe paces the PCL in runs and walks, ranks tied for second in RBI and second with a .535 OBP...Joe leads OKC's qualified players with a .435 OBP (fourth in PCL), and his 54 runs and 48 walks (t-seventh PCL) also both lead the team.
Road Work: The Dodgers are 15-6 over their last 21 road games and have outscored opponents, 168-115. Over that span, OKC is batting .312 (232x743) with 99 extra-base hits, 39 home runs and is hitting .332 (68x205) with runners in scoring position...OKC has scored 10 or more runs in seven of the 15 victories. They've scored at least seven runs in 14 of the 21 games and have been held to four or fewer runs just four times, scoring fewer than three runs just once.
Around the Horn: Kevin Quackenbush enters tonight with scoreless appearances in 16 of his last 17 games, holding opponents to one run and 12 hits with 27 strikeouts over 17.1 IP. He is currently tied for first among PCL relievers in both appearances (37) and strikeouts (63)...Matt Beaty has hit safely in each of his first three games (4x12) since being optioned to OKC, and he's collected at least one hit in 12 of his last 13 Triple-A games going back to late April, batting .340 (18x53) with five extra-base hits, 10 RBI and eight runs scored...The Dodgers have allowed just four home runs over the last eight games. Since June 1, they're tied for the fewest homers allowed in the PCL (43 HR/39 G).
