Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that forward Ryan Potulny has been recalled by their National Hockey League affiliate, the Edmonton Oilers. The Falcons also announced that goaltender Dany Sabourin has been assigned to the Falcons by the Oilers.
Potulny recorded two goals and four assists and a +4 rating on Monday, January 26 as a member of the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team at the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. He currently leads the Falcons in scoring with 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points in 38 games this season. The 6-foot, 190-pound native of Grand Forks, North Dakota also leads Springfield in goals and multi-point games with nine.
Potulny is in his third full professional season and he was named an assistant captain of the Falcons back on October 8, 2008. He started his pro career splitting time between the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms and NHL's Philadelphia Flyers from 2006-2008. Potulny was originally drafted by the Flyers in the third round (87th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Before joining the pro ranks, he spent three seasons with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2003-2006.
Sabourin started the season with the Pittsburgh Penguins before being acquired by the Oilers in a trade along with forward Ryan Stone and a fourth round draft choice in 2011 in exchange for goaltender Mathieu Garon on January 17, 2009.
In 19 games with Pittsburgh this season, Sabourin has a record of 6-8-2 with a 2.85 goals against average and .898 save percentage. He won the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL's outstanding goaltender and the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award given to outstanding team goaltender(s) in 2005-06 as a member of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
The Falcons return to action this weekend when they head to Worcester on Friday and Binghamton on Saturday. Springfield doesn't return home to the MassMutual Center until Friday, February 6 when they host the Lowell Devils at 7:30 pm.
