
Admirals Sign Goaltender Tyler Sims to PTO

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals have signed goaltender Tyler Sims to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO), Admirals General Manager Mike Butters announced today.
Sims, a 6-foot-0, 190-pound goaltender, has gone 5-4-0 in nine games with the Central Hockey League's Mississippi RiverKings this season. The professional rookie has posted a 2.80 goals-against average, .898 save percentage and one shutout with the RiverKings.
The 23-year-old native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, spent four years at Providence College, going 44-56-10 with a 2.57 GAA and .909 save percentage. He is the career record holder for games played (116) and shutouts (7) at Providence College. Sims was given the Lou Lamoriello Award as Providence College Team Co-MVP for the 2005-06 season. He was named a Hockey East Academic All-Star in 2004-05 and was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team in 2006-07.
Sims made his professional debut last season in the ECHL following the conclusion of his collegiate career. He played two games with the Reading Royals, going 0-1-1-0 with a 3.00 GAA and .907 save percentage. He then played two games with the Las Vegas Wranglers, going 1-1-0-0 with a 4.06 GAA and .860 save percentage.
The Admirals' nine-game homestand will conclude this week with a pair of contests against the Albany River Rats. The puck drops tonight and tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m.
