
Carolina Recalls Defenseman Bryan Rodney

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defenseman Bryan Rodney has been recalled to the Carolina Hurricanes, their National Hockey League affiliate. Albany also announced that rookie defenseman Benn Olson has been loaned to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.
Rodney, 24, leads all Albany defenseman in scoring and ranks fifth on the team with 22 points (2 goals, 20 assists) in 36 games for the River Rats this season. The London, Ontario native made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes on December 11, 2008 at Philadelphia and logged 23:39 minutes of ice time; he had a +1 rating and 2 penalty minutes in two NHL games before being sent back to Albany. Rodney, who signed a one-year two-way NHL contract with Carolina on May 12, 2008, returns to Raleigh for the second time this year. During the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs he led the River Rats in scoring with six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in seven games played. Rodney is expected to be in the lineup tonight as the Hurricanes host the Tampa Bay Lightning at the RBC Center at 7:00 pm in the first game of a two-game home stand.
Olson, 21, made his professional debut with Albany on October 18, 2008 at Bridgeport and has played in six games this year, recording one assist, 21 penalty minutes and a +1 rating. The Port McNeil, British Columbia native suffered an injury on November 27th at Binghamton and missed 18 straight games due to injury. Olson was cleared for full contact on January 9th, but has been a healthy scratch for the River Rats last nine games. Olson will be looking to make his ECHL debut with the Everblades on Friday, January 30th when they travel to South Carolina for a 7:00 pm game against the Stingrays.
The River Rats will return to action on Thursday, January 29th at Scope Arena in Virginia as they face the Norfolk Admirals at 7:15 pm. Following their three game road trip, Albany will host the Portland Pirates on Saturday, February 7th for a 5:00 pm face off at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
