Back-and-fourth play, nine penalties and stellar goaltending summarized the second game between the Manitoba Moose and Rockford IceHogs on Thursday night at the MTS Centre. After 60 minutes of regulation time, the teams were forced into overtime and then a shootout to decide the game winner, and the visiting IceHogs defeated the Moose 2-1 for the first time this season in front of 6535 spectators.

At 2:54 Adam Pineault took the games first penalty when he was called out for hooking, but the Moose were unable to beat goaltender Antti Niemi and were shutout on their first man-advantage.

Rockford benefited from their first powerplay at 12:30 when Alexandre Bolduc was penalized for slashing. A minute into the man-advantage, Judd Blackwater took Curtis Sanford by surprise and snuck the puck between his left pad and left goal post to put Rockford up by one.

On the heels of the first goal, Bolduc soon added a hooking penalty to his resume, putting the IceHogs on their second powerplay. Manitoba's penalty killers cleared the puck on three occasions to kill off the five-on-four without too much added pressure on Sanford.

Early in the second, centre man Jake Dowell took a tripping penalty and put the Moose back on the powerplay. Although the home team was leading in shots 12-10 they couldn't translate their shot lead into a goal lead and play resumed to five-on-five.

With a scramble in front of the visiting net the puck laid loose right in Niemi's crease. With help from Jason Krog and Maxime Fortunus, Raymond Sawada netted his fourth of the season to knot the game at one.

At 8:41 into the third period, Andrew Archer's hooking penalty put the Moose on their fifth powerplay of the contest, but like the first four the Moose failed to capitalize with the extra attacker.

Guillaume Desbien's holding sentence put the Moose back on the penalty kill in the dying minutes of the final frame. Strong defense along with an offensive surge by Alexandre Bolduc and Jason Jaffray ensured the IceHogs wouldn't claim the lead in the short two-minutes.

With both club's failing to score in the final minutes, the Moose and IceHogs headed into overtime to decide the game winner.
