Oil Kings Prospects To Play In Challenge Cup

October 7, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB.: The Edmonton Oil Kings will have five prospects from their protected list playing in the Western Canada Under 16 Challenge Cup. The event will be held in Blackfalds, Alberta and will feature the highest rated players in the Under 16 age category representing the four Western Provinces of Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

"This is a great opportunity for our guys to play against their peers," says Oil Kings General Manager Bob Green. "The players will be in a competitive environment before the Under 17 tryouts next spring, so it is a good way for Hockey Canada to evaluate them."

The five Oil Kings prospects, the Province they will represent, the current team they are with, and when they were selected in the 2009 Bantam Draft are as follows:

TEAM BC

Griffin Reinhart, Northwest Giants (1st Round, 3rd overall)

Morgan Zulinick, Thompson Blazers (3rd Round, 52nd overall)

TEAM ALBERTA

Mitchell Moroz, Calgary Edge School Varsity (2nd Round, 30th overall)

TEAM SASKATCHEWAN

Ashton Sautner, Moose Jaw Warriors (8th Round, 162nd overall)

TEAM MANITOBA

Matt Miller, Winnipeg Wild (4th Round, 74th overall)

The four team round robin tournament format, which will be held October 28 to November 1, 2009 at the Blackfalds Multiplex, will assist the four Western Provincial Hockey Associations in evaluating these top prospects for future Program of Excellence competitions.
