Offense Erupts to Help Tribe Take Series

Indianapolis Indians News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Elias Diaz had three hits and his first Triple-A homer, Alen Hanson drove in three runs and the Indianapolis Indians took two of three games from the Columbus Clippers with an 8-6 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Huntington Park.

Diaz lifted his solo homer off reliever Kyle Crockett to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth. The prized catching prospect also doubled and scored in the sixth inning while finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

Fellow top prospect Hanson went quiet through his first four at-bats before clearing the bases behind Diaz with what proved to be the game-winning triple. Hanson's RBIs were his first of the season and provided just enough insurance for the Indians (6-7) to withstand Columbus' (6-7) three runs over the final two innings.

Closer Blake Wood preserved the lead and earned the save with one run in 1 1/3 innings of work. He recorded each of his four outs via strikeout, including a bases-loaded punchout of rehabbing big leaguer Zach Walters in the bottom of the eighth and a whiff of top prospect Francisco Lindor with the tying run on base in the ninth.

Steve Lombardozzi and Mel Rojas Jr. also contributed three-hit efforts for the Tribe, and both finished with a run scored, one RBI and a double in the victory.
