Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Superhero Knight at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, April 30th!
The Charlotte Knights are set to welcome professional wrestling legend and North Carolina native Shane "Hurricane" Helms to their Uptown Charlotte headquarters -- BB&T Ballpark -- on Thursday, April 30 for an electrifying Superhero Knight! Aspiring superheroes of all ages are encouraged to come out dressed in their favorite superhero costume. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes via the team's official Twitter page by using hashtag #SuperheroKnight.
Helms began wrestling at the age of 16 in numerous independent promotions. In 1999, he signed with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and went on to win both the WCW Hardcore Championship and WCW Cruiserweight Championship during his stint there. In 2001, Helms made his way to WWF (now WWE) and eventually gained huge success and popularity as "The Hurricane". A comic book fan, Helms has a tattoo of the Green Lantern symbol on his arm and with help from "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, the "Hurricane" was born. He won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and also the WWE Tag Team Titles during his time with the WWE.
Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Helms will take part in a special meet and greet with fans before the exciting 7:05 p.m. game against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (New York Yankees affiliate). Helms, who will sign autographs for fans, will also be on-hand to help promote the NWA Legends Fan Fest, which takes place at the Hilton University Place hotel from Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 2.
Thursday's adventurous game also features Thirsty Thursday presented by Hickory Tavern. Single-game tickets for all Charlotte Knights games this season are available by phone at 704-274-8282, in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office, or online at charlotteknights.com. Uptown Knights Are Better Than Ever!
