Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
TUESDAY TROUBLE: The IronPigs evened the "IronRail Series" on with a 6-1 victory over the RailRiders last night. The loss dropped SWB to 6-7 and snapped a four-game win streak. The Pigs halted a five-game slide and improved to 4-9.
WHAT ABOUT BOB?: Rob Segedin came off the bench to deliver a 3-for-3 performance with a triple and the team's lone run scored. The triple marked his first extra-base hit of the season while the three hits set a Triple-A career-high.
TRIPLE THREAT: The RailRiders co-lead the International League lead for triples with Charlotte at five. SWB's triples have come from Ben Gamel (2), Ramon Flores (1), Slade Heathcott (1) and now Segedin.
SLADE'S BLADE: Heathcott bounced back from an 0-for-6 showing in the 15-inning series opener with a pair of hits last night.
ALL GOOD THINGS: Tyler Henson's two-out RBI single off of Joel De La Cruz in the seventh snapped the bullpen's scoreless stretch at 20 innings. The entire pitching staff allowed just three runs over a 36-inning stretch until the Pigs played a pair in the second inning last night.
STOP, THIEVES!: Lehigh Valley swiped three bags in as many tries last night. Darin Mastroianni, Chris Nelson and Chase d'Arnaud each took second. The SWB battery has allowed opponents to take 14 bags in 15 tries. Despite an .067 caught-stealing efficiency, SWB does not live in the IL's caught-stealing basement. Buffalo has yet to nab a man in six attempts. Norfolk (16) and Charlotte (16) have allowed more total steals, but own better efficiencies at .385 and .111 respectively.
LEAVING 'EM ON: The RailRiders went 1-for-9 (.111) with men in scoring position on Monday and have gone 3-for-24 (.125) on the series leaving 23 men on base in the process. On the season, SWB has hit .246 with men in prime real estate. Cole Figueroa has the most RISP hits (5-for-14, 2RBI) while Gamel has the best contact clip (.667, 4-for-6) and shares the team lead for RISP RBIs (5).
LEFTORIUM: Adam Morgan starts of four lefty starters in five games for SWB foes. The RailRiders have hit slightly better against RHP (.251/.310/.369) than LHP (.244/.355/.269). Six of SWB's 12 position players are left-handed hitters.
THE OLD SWITCHEROO: Before yesterday's game, reliever Chasen Shreve was recalled by the Yankees while Branden Pinder was optioned back to SWB. Shreve made one SWB appearance. He allowed two inherited runners to cross, but did not allow a run on his line over 2.1 innings versus Rochester a week ago. Pinder hurled one inning for the RailRiders last night. He gave up two runs on four hits while whiffing three. He did not allow a run over two innings in the big leagues with the Bombers.
MANIC MONDAY: It took 15 innings on Monday night at PNC Field, but the RailRiders edged the IronPigs, 4-3. Nick Noonan delivered the walk-off winner with an opposite-way single to left. It marked the RailRiders' longest game by innings since the franchise-record 20-inning affair on July 25, 2013 against Toledo, a 2-1 win. At 4:13, it was the longest game by time since a 3-2 home loss to Louisville took 4:59 and 14 innings on Aug. 13, 2014.
OFF THE RAILS: Lehigh Valley got its first road win in its sixth such game...Severino Gonzalez became the IronPigs' first starter to post a win...Current starter Jason Berken has a victory, but worked in piggyback relief behind Chad Billingsley to start the year, including the win...SWB pitching has amassed a league-high 125 strikeouts in 123 IP...Tonight the RailRiders seek their first back-to-back series victories since winning sets at Syracuse and Lehigh Valley from June 26-29, 2014.
