Idaho Steelheads News Release

JUGGLING ACT

The Steelheads are going into this year's ECHL All-Star break with a four-game win streak after knocking off arch rival Alaska in two games over the weekend. Idaho beat Alaska 5-3 on Jan. 18th and 2-1 the following night. All this in the midst of losing both goaltenders due to call ups to the American Hockey League. Not to mention losing other players due to call ups and injuries.

With all the juggling head coach Derek Laxdal has had to do over the last couple of weeks, he could get a job in the circus. Laxdal has dressed six different goaltenders since January 5th and had a total of 23 player moves, including the return of goalie Kellen Briggs yesterday:

ABOUT THE ALL-STAR GAME

Three Steelheads players will be represented at the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game hosted by the Stockton Thunder on Jan. 23rd with the 11th edition of the Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition being held on Jan. 22nd. The Idaho Steelheads hosted the All-Star festivities in Boise in Jan. 17th, 2007.

It is the second straight year that veteran Idaho defenseman Darrell Hay has been voted as a starter and it will be the second consecutive appearance for Idaho forward Greg Rallo, who was named as a replacement player and registered an assist a year ago. Rallo, who is just returning to Idaho's lineup after missing 13 games due to injury, has 31 points (15g-16a) in 27 games while Hay has 25 points (7g-18a) in 40 games. It will be the first All-Star Game for Steelheads rookie goaltender Kellen Briggs, who is 10-5-1 with a shutout and ranks first in the ECHL with a goals-against average of 1.97 and second with a save percentage of .932.

The starting lineups are determined in voting by National Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the nine teams having a representative.

Crombeen, who had a third-period fight with Jared Boll, helped the Steelheads win the Kelly Cup in 2007 with 10 points (5g-5a) and 45 penalty minutes in 22 postseason games. He had 11 points (7g-4a) and 43 penalty minutes in 13 regular season games for Idaho after returning from Finland where he had 22 points (13g-9a) and 152 penalty minutes in 55 games for Assat. Crombeen was selected in the second round (54th overall) by Dallas in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
