Texas Wildcatters News Release

BEAUMONT, TX- The first place Wildcatters (29-4-3-4) maintained their South Division lead going 2-1-1 across a four-game divisional road trip last week.

The 'Catters began the week with a 2-1 loss at Mississippi, their first regulation loss to their regional rivals this year (5-1-0-1). The Wildcatters, who allowed only one third period shot and outshot the Sea Wolves 35-21 for the game, got their lone goal from Matt Kassian. Jeff Pietrasiak would collect the loss with 19 saves for Texas.

The Wildcatters traveled to Columbia on Friday and Saturday as Anton Khudobin and Jeff Jakaitis went toe-to-toe in two classic goalie battles. The Wildcatters were 2-1 winners Friday with a shootout victory that went eight shooters deep. Cleve Kinley got the sudden-death clincher for the Catters as Khudobin stonewalled all eight Columbia shooters to seal the win.

The second game of the series went to Jakaitis and the Inferno. Texas got a goal from Moises Gutierrez in the second period but Jakaitis made 35 saves in regulation and overtime to help Columbia to the 2-1 overtime win.

Texas closed the trip with a win on the final game before the All-Star break, a 4-3 decision Sunday in Charlotte. Dan Welch led off the scoring for the Catters, Gutierrez gathered his second goal in as many days, and Scott Champagne scored twice to pace the Catters with his tenth and eleventh goals of the season.
