Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release


Biloxi, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves won three of four games they played last week, beating Texas 2-1 on Tuesday, Florida 4-3 on Friday, and Gwinnett 5-4 on Saturday. The Pack's only loss came 3-1 against Florida on Sunday.

Ryan Munce made 34 saves to earn his 10th win of the season as the Mississippi Sea Wolves (15-20-3) knocked off the Texas Wildcatters by the score of 2-1 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Tuesday evening.

The Sea Wolves capitalized late in the first period on a mistake by Texas goaltender Jeff Pietrasiak. Pat Oliveto's lead pass intended for Mark Rooneem was off target, drawing Pietrasiak out to the top of the circles where he played the puck to the right side. With Pietrasiak trapped out of the net, the puck landed on the stick of Jason Tejchma, who fired into the empty net at 16:16.

Travis Lisabeth poked home the rebound of a shot from Kyle McAllister at the 1:01 mark of the second period for a power play goal that stood as the game-winner.

Texas got on the board when Matt Kassian banged home a rebound at 6:12 of the third period, but the Wildcatters were unable to find the back of the net again, as Ryan Munce made 11 saves through the third period for a game total of 34 to earn the win.

Mississippi was 1-for-5 on the power play.

Friday, January 18 vs. Florida, 4-3 W

The Mississippi Sea Wolves continued their winning ways in the month of January with a 4-3 win over the Florida Everblades at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday.

Florida got out to an early lead when Kirk MacDonald followed the rebound of Preston Callander's shot and drove it into the back of the net at the 11:42 mark of the first period. David Cornacchia would add to the Florida lead when his shot hit Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce, fluttered in the air and wound up trickling into the net at 16:20. Torry Gajda got Mississippi on the board with 57 seconds remaining in the first period when he picked up the rebound of Kyle McAllister's shot.

The Sea Wolves evened the score at two when Travis Lisabeth scored his 10th goal of the season at the 1:37 mark of the second, bouncing a shot off of the skate of Florida's David Shantz and into the net. Lance Monych's team-leading 17th goal of the season, a wrist shot into the top of the net, beat Shantz to give the Sea Wolves a 3-2 lead at the 4:15 mark of the second frame.

Brett Peterson would draw Florida even at three when his point shot beat Munce through traffic at 2:39 of the third period. Kyle McAllister potted his fourth game-winning goal of the season when he cut in the front of the net, drew Shantz down to the ice and fired the puck past him at 16:19.

Saturday, January 19 @ Gwinnett, 5-4 W

The Mississippi Sea Wolves (17-20-1-2) won their eighth game in the month of January by the score of 5-4 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday night.

The Sea Wolves jumped out to an early lead, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the game. At the 1:11 mark of the first period, Lance Monych took a feed from Mark Rooneem and beat Gwinnett's Dan Turple with a low shot through traffic. At 2:42, Travis Lisabeth scored his 11th goal of the season and second in as many nights when Gwinnett defenseman Chad Denny's lead pass landed right on Lisabeth's tape, the veteran forward took two steps towards the net and fired through Turple's pads. Stuart MacRae cut the Sea Wolves' lead to one when he tipped Jamie Milam's shot past Mississippi goaltender Morgan Cey at 19:42.

MacRae scored his second of the game on the power play just 1:42 into the second period when he banged home a feed from Jeff Mason. Travis Lisabeth regained the lead for the Sea Wolves when Mark Hurtubise won a faceoff over to him and he fired another low shot through Turple's pads at 7:39 of the second. Andy Brandt tied the game at three for Gwinnett when he found the rebound of a shot from Busniuk that hit the end boards and banged it past Cey at 17:44.

Matt Deschamps scored his fourth goal of the season, breaking down the right wing and firing a short-side shot that beat Turple over the glove at 7:16 og the third period. With Torry Gajda off for hooking, Mark Rooneem converted Jason Tejchma's centering feed for the shorthand game-winning goal at 8:36. Lou Dickenson drew Gwinnett within one with and 19:28 of the third period, banging a loose puck past Cey with Turple on the bench in favor of an extra attacker.

Mississippi finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play, and Morgan cey made 52 saves to earn the win.

Sunday, January 21 vs. Florida, 1-3 L

The Mississippi Sea Wolves (17-21-1-2) lost by a 3-1 score at home against the Florida Everblades on Sunday night.

Florida got an early lead at 3:10 of the first period when Mike McLean pushed a rebound past Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce, who had his eight-game personal win streak broken.

The Sea Wolves evened the score at one when Mark Hurtubise found the rebound of Lance Monych's shot and tucked it into the corner of the net past Florida goaltender Justin Peters at 5:38 of the second period. Florida regained the lead at 11:56 of the second when Derek Damon fired a one-timer past Ryan Munce with the Everblades on the power play.

Ernie Hartlieb added an insurance goal, blasting a feed from Damon past Munce at the 19:07 mark of the third period while Mississippi's Chase Trull was in the penalty box for charging.

Mississippi finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play, and Ryan Munce made 43 saves in the loss.
