Inferno Earns Point in Shootout

DULUTH, GA (January 21, 2008) - The Columbia Inferno dropped to the Gwinnett Gladiators in a shootout afternoon game but earn a point in the South Division, 3-2.

Jeremy Hall put the Inferno on the board first with his sixth goal of the game at 1:09 of the second period. Daniel Sparre and Patrick Wellar had the assists. Tyler Doig gave Columbia a 2-0 lead at 7:29 of the third period as he scored his seventh goal of the season when he jumped right out of the penalty box and took to puck down the ice to lift it high over the shoulder of goaltender Craig Kowalski. This was the fourth shorthanded goal for Columbia on the season.

Gwinnett fired away shots, outshooting the Inferno 18-4 in the third period, and came up with two goals to tie the game and send it into overtime and then a shootout.

Jeff Jakaitis faced 45 shots on goal, stopping 43. The Inferno went 0-for-8 on the power play and 8-for-9 on the penalty kill.

The Inferno will take a few days off for the ECHL All-Star break and return home on Saturday, January 26th to face off against the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling 251-2222 or visiting the Carolina Coliseum Box Office.
