St. Paul Saints News Release

TOLEDO, OH - If the Minnesota Twins are looking for good news they got it on Sunday afternoon in Toledo. Bailey Ober, making his third Major League rehab in the last couple of weeks, and first with the Saints in that time, was sharp. The Saints offense, however, was not, managing just one hit in a 6-1 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.

The Saints got their lone hit of the game in the second when John Andreoli led off the inning with a solo homer to left, his 11th with the Saints and 13th overall, making it 1-0. The Saints managed just two more base runners all game, a two out walk to David Bañuelos in the second and a leadoff hit by pitch to Nash Knight in the sixth.

Ober, meanwhile, walked the second batter he faced before getting a double play to end the inning.

Including the double play to end the first, Ober retired 11 hitters in a row including six of seven outs by strikeout from the third through the first out of the fifth. He finally gave up his first hit of the game with one out in the fifth and it was a solo homer off the bat of Brendon Davis, his 10th of the season, tying the game at one. Ober went 4.2 innings allowing one run on one hit while walking two and striking out six.

The Saints used a second Major League rehabber on the mound, Randy Dobnak. He gave up a two out single in the sixth before a strikeout ended the inning.

He wasn't as fortunate in the seventh as the Mud Hens grabbed the lead. It was once again Davis, who slugged his second homer of the game and 11th of the season, a solo shot to left giving the Mud Hens a 2-1 lead. After a walk to Jamie Westbrook, Dobnak came out of the game. Jake Jewell came on and hit the first batter he faced before giving up an RBI single to Dylan Rosa increasing the lead to 3-1. Dobnak went 1.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out two.

In the eighth, the Mud Hens put the game out of reach with three insurance runs. With one out, Josh Lester singled to center. Daz Cameron then hit a two-run homer to center, his eighth of the season, making it 5-1. Davis singled to left-center and then advanced to third on a throwing error by Brock Stewart on a pickoff attempt. Two batters later a sacrifice fly from Dustin Garneau made it 6-1.

It's the second time in franchise history the Saints have collected just one hit in a game. The other came on June 24, 2021 at Columbus. They were no-hit earlier this season and didn't collect a hit in a seven inning game last season.

The Saints are off on Monday and return to action on Tuesday beginning a six-game series at CHS Field against the Louisville Bats (Cincinnati Reds) at 7:07 p.m. The Saints send RHP Ariel Jurado (0-2, 4.58) to the mound against Major League rehabber, RHP Connor Overton (2-1, 2.84).
