Albany River Rats News Release

NORFOLK, VA-The Admirals scored on four-of-five shootout attempts to defeat the Albany River Rats 3-2 on Friday night at the Norfolk Scope.

River Rats rookies Chris Terry and Jamie McBain netted a goal and a shootout marker each, as Albany saw it's lead over the third-place Admirals shrink to just one point in the East Division standings. The River Rats have a game in hand on Norfolk and will battle the Admirals again on Saturday night at 7:15 p.m.

Recently acquired Goaltender Justin Pogge turned aside 36-of-38 shots faced in his River Rats debut, but allowed shootout goals to Justin Keller, Blair Jones, Matt Fornataro and Mitch Fadden. Terry and McBain connected for Albany in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, of the penalty-shot contest.

Terry scored the first periods' only goal just 3:47 into the game on a redirection from Zach FitzGerald, but Norfolk out-shot the visitors 19-3 in the second frame to take a 2-1 lead. Adam Hall put the Admirals on the board at 9:59, knocking down an elevated feed from behind the net and backhanding it just inside the near post for his 12th of the season. Justin Keller then gave the Admirals their first lead of the night at 16:07, when he unloaded a top-shelf blast from the blue line with just three seconds remaining on a power play.

McBain knotted the game at 2-2 just 26 seconds into the third period with an unassisted, coast-to-coast slap shot from the top of the right wing faceoff circle. Albany finished the overtime session with a 4-on-3 power play for 1:20, but could not convert.

Norfolk goalie Jaroslav Janus stopped 26-of-28 shots faced in the game to earn the win, as the Admirals improved to 34-27-3-1 this season. Pogge took the shootout loss, as Albany fell to 33-24-3-4 this year. Norfolk out-shot the River Rats 39-28 in the contest and went 1-for-7 on the power play, while Albany was 0-for-6 on the man-advantage.
