March 5, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Cedar Park, Tex.- With just 15 games remaining on the 2009-10 regular season slate, the Rockford IceHogs are closing in on a Calder Cup Playoff berth. Tonight the IceHogs open a five-game road swing in Texas against the Stars at the Cedar Park Center.
Tonight's game begins at 7:30 p.m. and can be head on 1330 AM WNTA, www.wnta.com or in Rockford on Comcast Cable channel-57 beginning with the U.S. Cellular Pregame Show at 6:35 p.m. The game can also be viewed on on-line at www.icehogs.com through the AHL Live.
Rockford and Texas haven't matched up since Dec. 12 when the IceHogs finally solved the Stars in their fifth meeting, 3-2. Both teams are locked into the top four in the AHL's West Division and are jockeying for playoff positioning while trying to further solidify a playoff spot.
Entering play tonight, Rockford (37-22-2-3) sits six points ahead of Texas (33-22-3-4) in the West Division with three more head-to-head meetings scheduled. The Stars have given the IceHogs fits this season as Rockford is 1-3-1-0 against the West Division foes.
The IceHogs road swing will continue in San Antonio on Saturday and Sunday before concluding with a pair of games in Winnipeg against the Manitoba Moose next weekend. The five-game road swing is the longest for Rockford since opening the season with five road contests.
Next Home Game: Sunday, March. 14 vs. Houston Aeros. Game time is 5:05 p.m. Join in the celebration at the Rockford MetroCentre for Hammy's Birthday. The first 2,500 fans into the arena will receive an IceHogs cereal bowl courtesy of General Mills and WROK. The game is also a WXRX Student Rush Night and fans can get Family Four Packs, including four tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks and four popcorns for just $44. Plus, the IceHogs are giving away game-worn jerseys of Bracken Kearns, Mike Brennan, Simon Danis-Pepin, Mark Cullen and Evan Brophey. All jersey winners will be drawn at random and fans can sign up to win at the game.
