Adirondack Phantoms News Release

GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms enjoyed their fifth standing room only crowd of the season and gave away 1,000 Phantoms youth jerseys courtesy of the Glens Falls Hospital Rehabilitation Center, but on the ice they suffered a 5-2 loss to the Rochester Americans Friday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Both teams came out flying in the first period, playing with lots of energy and an up tempo style. Midway through the frame Matt Clackson fed the puck to Patrick Maroon down low and the big forward powered his way across the crease, tucking the puck inside the far post to give Adirondack a 1-0 lead at 10:12. The goal was Maroon's tenth goal of the season, assisted by Clackson and Jon Matsumoto. The Americans answered back three minutes later when Jamie Johnson found Mike York with a cross-ice pass to the back post to tie the game at 13:24.

After a scoreless second period where the Phantoms out-shot Rochester 13-6, the Amerks took their first lead of the night when Evgeny Dadonov scored 54 seconds into the third period. David Laliberte tied the game at 2-2 and sent the sellout crowd into a frenzy at 9:55. Captain Jared Ross made a great play to keep the puck in the offensive zone and blasted a shot at goaltender Alexander Salak before Laliberte fired in the rebound for his 15th goal of the year; Logan Stephenson also assisted on the goal. However, Rochester would regain the lead 3-2 five minutes later as Dadonov scored his second of the game at 15:01, this time set up by Chris Taylor. Dadonov then setup Michal Repik to make it 4-2 at 16:51 and Repik added an empty net goal at 19:31 to cap off the scoring; his fifth goal against Adirondack this season.

Rookie goaltender Alexander Salak picked up his 27th win of the season as he made 24 saves on 26 shots to help Rochester improve to 35-26-2-0. Johan Backlund finished with 16 saves on 20 shots, allowing four goals as the Phantoms fell to 28-30-2-2. Adirondack out-shot the Americans 26-21 and went 0-for-4 on the power play; Rochester was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.

The Phantoms are home again on Saturday, March 6th as they host the Binghamton Senators for a 7:00 pm face off at the Civic Center. Saturday is Dollar Dog Night where hot dogs are just $1 at the concessions stands.
