Charlotte Knights News Release

(Louisville, KY) - After a twenty minute rain delay at Louisville Slugger Field, a three-run first inning proved to be enough run support for Hector Noesi as the right-hander delivered seven strong innings in the Charlotte Knights 6-2 victory over the Louisville Bats. Jason Coats led the Charlotte offense with his 3-for-4 night, including a home run and a pair of RBIs.

Noesi scattered five hits over a season-high seven innings to earn his first victory with the Knights in 2015. He recorded a season-high nine strikeouts in the outing, his highest total since he fanned 11 Reno Aces on August 18, 2012 as a member of the Tacoma Rainiers - Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. The Dominican native is now 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in four appearances (three starts) since joining the Knights, after starting the season with Chicago.

Zach Phillips took over for Noesi in the eighth inning and recorded the final six outs to earn his ninth save of the season. The nine saves leads all active Knights relievers and ties the lefty with Jairo Asencio for the overall team lead.

Left-hander John Lamb made his debut as a Reds farmhand on Wednesday, and after a rocky three-run first inning, he settled down to toss five frames without allowing another run. The 24-year-old struck out eight over five innings, but was saddled with the loss.

Matt Tuiasosopo drove in the first Knights run with a double off of Lamb that scored Micah Johnson. After Coats came home on a Matt Davidson sacrifice-fly, Chris Marrero completed the scoring against Lamb with an RBI-triple that gave the Knights a 3-0 lead.

The Bats got on the 'board in the fourth inning when Irving Falu doubled and scored on a Josh Satin single. Chris Dominguez cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth frame with his seventh home run of the season, but the Bats would not be able to complete the rally.

Tyler Colvin started a sixth-inning rally with the second Knights triple of the game, scoring Drew Garcia from first base. Colvin then scored on a Coats RBI-single.

Coats capped off his 3-for-4 night with a solo home run in the ninth inning that gave the Knights a 6-2 lead. The homer gave him two RBIs on the night, pushing his team-leading total to 63 on the season.

The Knights will look to claim a four-game series victory with a third win over the Bats on Thursday. Kyle Drabek will toe the rubber for Charlotte against left-hander Brandon Finnegan. Thursday will be the second consecutive game that the team will face a pitching prospect in their Bats debut, as Finnegan was acquired along with Lamb in the trade that sent Johnny Cueto to the Kansas City Royals earlier this week. First pitch for the series finale is set for 7:05 p.m. ET and can be heard on the Knights flagship station, ESPN 730 AM.
