April 5, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
Tomas Vincour's two-point night in his debut for the Lake Erie Monsters (31-30-3-7) helped his new team to a 3-1 road victory over the Rochester Americans (37-27-3-1) Friday night. Paul Carey and Luke Walker also scored for the Monsters, while goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 37 of 38 shots in the win. The Monsters have won two straight games to finish up a five-game road trip.
Pickard made 15 saves in a scoreless first period for the Monsters, while Rochester's David Leggio stopped 11 Monsters.
Walker, after having a shot blocked, recovered possession and wristed a shot over the right shoulder of Leggio to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead at 1:38 of the second period, with assists from Andrew Agozzino and Stefan Elliott.
Having joined the Monsters earlier in the week after a trade at the NHL deadline, Vincour set up Carey for a shorthanded tally at 7:25 of the second period. Vincour carried the puck on a two-on-one, and slipped it to the front of the net where Carey scored top-shelf on a backhand.
Johan Larsson put Rochester on the board at 14:14 of the second period to pull the Americans to within a goal, making the score 2-1 in the Monsters favor through 40 minutes.
In the third period with the Monsters on a power play, Vincour snapped a loose puck from the left circle past Leggio to give the Monsters a 3-1 lead with his 14th overall goal of the season and first as a Monster, assisted by Elliott and Karl Stollery at 3:43 of the final period. The goal was the final marker of the game, and gave the Monsters the 3-1 win.
Pickard stopped 37 of 38 shots in the win; he is now 17-19-5. Leggio stopped 21 of 24; he is now 35-22-1.
The Monsters are back on the ice Tuesday at Quicken Loans Arena when they host the Syracuse Crunch at 7:00 PM.
