Crunch Clinch a Playoff Spot But Fall 4-1 to the Bears

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch clinched a spot in the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs, but lost to the Hershey Bears 4-1 at the War Memorial Arena tonight.

The Crunch's overall record drops to 39-21-4-5 and home record to 16-11-3-3. With 87 points, Syracuse is tied with Binghamton for the lead in the East Division. The Crunch clinched a playoff berth with losses by the Albany Devils and Manchester Monarchs.

Hershey struck first with a goal by Boyd Kane at the 9:18 mark of the first period. Kane deflected the puck past Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins to put the Bears up 1-0. The goal was assisted by Dmitry Orlov and Julien Brouillette.

With a little over three minutes to play in the first period, J.F. Jacques tied the game at 1-1. Jacques grabbed his own rebound and pushed the puck past the Hershey netminder to get the Crunch on the scoreboard. Mike Angelidis assisted on Jacques' 6th goal of the season. It was Jacques' first goal with the Crunch on the year.

After a nearly scoreless second period, Tomas Kundratek doubled the Bears' lead with 38.2 seconds left in the period. Wellar ripped a quick shot from between the faceoff dots after a pass from Ryan Potulny. Kane also assisted on the play to earn his second point of the night.

Two unassisted goals by Hershey in the third period solidified the Bears' lead. At the 10:06 mark of the period, Peter LeBlanc scored to make it 3-1 Hershey. Kundratek capped off the scoring with an empty net goal at with 59 seconds remaining in the game.
