Aeros Fly Past Wolves 5-2

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros (35-24-5-5, 80 points) defeated the Chicago Wolves (33-25-5-4, 75 points) 5-2 on Friday night in front of 7,225 fans at Toyota Center. Houston scored four times in the second period, catapulting past Chicago in a critical Western Conference game. Right wing Jason Zucker led the charge with two goals and an assist, as the team picked up its second straight win. Center Zack Phillips, defenseman Brian Connelly and forward Justin Fontaine each enjoyed a multi-point game. Defenseman Steven Kampfer and forward Dan DaSilva also scored in the victory, as Houston improved to 18-10-3-3 at home this year. Houston goalie Cody Reichard (3-1-1) grabbed the win with 22 saves on 24 shots. Reichard was replaced with 10:41 left in the game by Jeff Delauriers, who finished with eight saves. Chicago goalie Matt Climie (20-21-3) took the loss, stopping nine of 13 prior to getting pulled after giving up his fourth goal against at 13:09 of the second period. The Aeros will host Hamilton at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday at Toyota Center.

Houston opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 5:38 of the first period. Center Zack Phillips redirected a bouncing puck past Chicago goalie Matt Climie for the 1-0 lead. Defenseman Marco Scandella and forward Nick Petersen each had an assist on Phillips' seventh goal of the season. Chicago tied the game at 1-1 just 32 seconds later, off a goal by Darren Archibald. The Wolves worked the puck around the Houston zone. Defenseman Brad Hunt spotted Archibald cross- ice, sending a pass for a one-timer past Houston goalie Cody Reichard. Archibald's 11th of the season was also assisted by Jordan Schroeder.

Houston erupted with four goals in the second period, starting with Steven Kampfer's tally at 5:25 for the 2-1 lead. Jason Zucker and Justin Fontaine set up the play and Kampfer put in a rebound for his third goal of the season. The Aeros struck for the 3-1 lead with a power-play goal by Zucker at 11:29. Fontaine and defenseman Brian Connelly each had an assist on Zucker's 23rd goal of the year. Less than two minutes later, forward Dan DaSilva made it a 4-1 lead. DaSilva scored off a wraparound, tucking his fourth goal of the season into the Wolves net. Phillips and Connelly each had a hand in the tally. Wolves' goalie Matt Climie was pulled after giving up his fourth goal of the evening with nine saves in 33:09 of work. With Joe Cannata in for relief, Chicago responded by cutting the Aeros lead to 4-2. Forward Bill Sweatt scored his 13th goal of the season to bring his club within two goals at 13:29. Houston regained its three-goal lead in the last minute of the middle frame. Zucker stole the puck at center and scored off a breakaway, beating Cannata for his second goal of the night and 24th tally of the season.

Houston continues a ten-game home stand at Toyota Center on Sunday with the Hamilton Bulldogs at 5:05 p.m. The Aeros then host Oklahoma City on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
