
Bruins Burn Devils 4-1, Earn First Playoff Berth Since 2009

Albany, NY -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Albany Devils 4-1 this evening at the Times Union Center. Justin Florek and Christian Hanson scored and Alexander Khokhlachev scored his first and second professional goals. Niklas Svedberg made 18 saves as the Bruins improved to 42-21-0-5 and clinched their first playoff berth since 2009.
Looking to clinch their first playoff spot since 2009, the Bruins came out flying and scored just 17 seconds into the first period. Florek tallied his 11th goal of the season with some help from Bobby Robins and Kevan Miller. Despite outshooting the Devils 10-5 in the opening frame, the Bruins couldn't' get past Keith Kinkaid to expand their lead.
The Bruins exploded in the second period, most notably Khokhlachev. The Russian rookie scored the first goal of his North American professional career at 5:40 of the second period. Torey Krug and Jamie Tardif assisted. Less than five minutes later, Hanson tallied his 11th goal of the season to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead. Not to be stopped at one, Koko added his second of the night and his North American pro career at 19:10. Krug added his second assist and Spooner also got a helper on the goal that sent the Bruins into the third leading 4-0.
Albany starterd to put up a fight in the third period, but it was simply too late. Despite outshooting the Bruisn 7-6 in the final frame and adding a goal at 16:00, the Devils couldn't break the Bruins as Providence held on for the 4-1 win and their first playoff berth since 2009.
The Bruins return to The Dunk on Friday, April 12 versus the Hershey Bears. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for Kids T-Shirt Night. The first 1,000 kids 12&under will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Graphic Ink, Washington Trust, Seekonk Supply and Super Cuts.
