June 28, 2012 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron, OH - Thomas Neal and Matt Lawson delivered key hits during a five-run fourth inning Thursday night, as the Aeros cruised to a 7-1 comeback win over the Erie SeaWolves at Canal Park.
The Aeros (48-31) snapped a three-game losing streak, and also gained another game on second-place Harrisburg, who lost at home against Altoona, 4-2. The Aeros now lead the EL West by 7 =C21/2 games.
After falling behind 1-0 on a first-inning, RBI groundout by Erie's Rawley Bishop, the Aeros stormed back in the fourth, scoring five times against Erie starter Patrick Cooper (2-1). Neal, who was named to the EL All-Star team earlier in the evening, led off with a home run high off the batter's eye in centerfield. It was his sixth home run of the season.
After a single and walk, Matt Lawson also belted a drive to center, this one landing at the base of the fence for a two-run triple and a 3-1 Aeros lead. Jordan Henry and Juan Diaz followed with RBI singles to extend the lead to 5-1, and chase Cooper to the showers.
Meanwhile, Aeros starter Brett Brach (3-3) settled in and pitched a season-high seven innings, scattering four hits and allowing just that one first-inning run. Brach worked around four walks and registered two strikeouts.
Kyle Landis, also named to the all-star squad, finished with two scoreless frames.
Lawson drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth off Erie reliever David Kopp for his third RBI of the game and 10th of the season. Neal stroked a two-out double in the sixth, also off Kopp, for his sixth extra-base hit of the series. He came home on a double by Adam Abraham to make it 7-1.
The game time temperature was 95 degrees.
The Aeros and SeaWolves (38-39) will play the fourth and final game of the series on Friday evening at 7:05. RHP Cesar Carillo (0-0, 9.00) will start for Erie, while RHP Paolo Espino (2-2, 3.05) will start for the Aeros. Fireworks will follow the game, accompanied by hits from the Beach Boys. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
