New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats scored four times in the 9 th inning and beat the first place Trenton Thunder 5-4 at New Britain Stadium. After getting held to just one hit in the first 8 innings, New Britain scored runs on back-to-back bases loaded walks followed by a 2 run single by Oswaldo Arcia in the 9 th inning. The Rock Cats beat Trenton for the second time in three games to pull within 2 games of first place.
The game was scoreless in the first four innings before the Thunder got four straight hits and took a 3-0 lead. Abraham Almonte then ripped a 2 out double in the 7 th to make it 4-0 Trenton. New Britain got its first run on a wild pitch in the 8 th inning. The 9 th inning rally off closer Ryan Flannery was started when Deibinson Romero walked, Nate Hanson singled and Daniel Rohlfing was hit in the back by a pitch. With one-out James Beresford drew a bases loaded walk followed by a walk from Aaron Hicks which made it a one-run game. Arcia then ripped a ball down the right-field line scoring pinch runner Estarlin De Los Santos and Beresford for the game winner. It was the 10 th time this season that the Rock Cats won a game in their final at-bat.
RHP Bruce Pugh, who pitched the final two innings for the Rock Cats got his second win. Trenton starter Shaffer Hall pitched well in a no decision in six scoreless innings. He departed with a 4-0 lead.
The Rock Cats and Thunder wrap up the 4 game series on Friday night 6:35. LHP Logan Darnell will pitch against RHP Mikey O'Brien.
