From the Notes

Seth Maness: 30-year-old Seth Maness starts for the Sounds tonight. The right-hander is 5-3 with a 5.55 ERA in 13 starts with Nashville. He was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team, throwing 1.0 inning and allowed an unearned run on July 10. Maness has tossed 71.1 innings and has allowed 94 hits and 11 walks to go along with 42 strikeouts. He has allowed 20 earned runs over his last three starts - June 26 at Memphis, July 2 vs. Oklahoma City and July 15 at San Antonio. Maness joined the Sounds on May 2 after the Rangers purchased his contract from the Independent League High Point Rockers. The veteran has pitched in the big leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals (2013-16) and the Kansas City Royals (2017). In 252 Major League games, the North Carolina native is 18-10 with a 3.21 ERA. Maness is 25-13 with a 3.76 ERA in 93 games (52 starts) in his minor league career. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in the 11th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of East Carolina University.

Nashville vs. Rea: Colin Rea has two starts against Nashville in 2019 - April 7 at First Tennessee Park (ND, 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and April 25 at Principal Park (W, 6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K). The following active Sounds have hit against Rea this year: Jett Bandy: 0-5, 2 K; Willie Calhoun: 2-4, BB; Matt Davidson: 2-3, R, HR, 2 RBI; Zack Granite: 2-5, 2 R, 2 K; Andy Ibáñez: 1-5, 2B, RBI; Carlos Tocci: 0-3, K; Jose Trevino: 0-2; Eli White: 2-5, R, 2B, 3B, 2 K.

Solak's Huge Game: Infielder Nick Solak's first game in Nashville was a hit. He went 3-for-4 with 2 home runs - the 5th multi-homer game of his career - and 3rd this year (June 12 vs. Toledo and June 2 vs. Columbus). It was the 4th time a Nashville Sound has had 2 home runs in a game this year (Patrick Wisdom, 7/14 vs. New Orleans & 5/18 at Round Rock and Matt Davidson, 4/30 vs. Omaha).

Back-to-Back Jacks: When Nick Solak and Patrick Wisdom hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning last night, it was the 3rd time Nashville teammates have accomplished the feat this year (Matt Davidson & Eli White, 5/16 at Round Rock and Eli White & Matt Davidson, 4/28 at Iowa).

Dillard's 7-Inning Gem: Yesterday marked only the 3rd time this year a Sounds pitcher has gone 7+ innings in a start. He joins Seth Maness (June 20 at New Orleans) and Richelson Pena (4/18 vs. Round Rock). It's Dillard's 2nd time tossing 7.0 innings in 2019 after his bullpen appearance in completion of a suspended game (April 18 vs. Round Rock).

Four at Home for the First Time: The Sounds matched a single-game high with four home runs in last night's win. It was the first time the team did it this year at First Tennessee Park. The other four-home run games are June 24 at New Orleans, June 21 at New Orleans, May 18 at Round Rock and April 15 at San Antonio.

Calhoun Announces his Return: Outfielder Willie Calhoun returned to the Nashville lineup after being optioned by Texas on July 16. He went 2-for-5 with a pair of run-scoring doubles and extended his on-base streak to 20 games with the Sounds. Since the streak started on April 22, Calhoun has an on-base percentage of .482 and is hitting .358 (24-for-67) with 13 runs scored, 5 doubles, 5 home runs, 19 RBI and 15 walks. The streak is tied for the longest active in the Pacific Coast League with Oklahoma City's DJ Peters.

What's the word around Nashville?

@nashvillesounds DH/infielder Matt Davidson makes his living as a hitter. He also can pitch a little, too. tennessean.com/story/sports/2...

Levi Weaver (@ThreeTwoEephus)

Joe Palumbo felt some discomfort in his right leg throwing a SIM game. Turns out he has tendinitis. Adrian Sampson will start Monday, TBA on Tuesday, Minor on Wednesday.

Late-evening hitterishness update: Nick Solak now has two HR tonight for the @nashvillesounds (giving him 19 for the year) plus a single.

MLB Pipeline (@MLBPipeline)

Nick Solak need only five games to hit his first homer since being traded to the #Rangers' organization, and then five innings to add another. The @Rangers' new No. 10 prospect hit 17 dingers for Durham before being dealt to Texas: atmlb.com/2T81Cvj
