From the Notes

Esmerling Vásquez: 35-year-old Esmerling Vásquez starts for the Sounds in today. The right-hander has been on the injured list since June 14. Vásquez has made two starts with Nashville this season. His last start came on June 13 versus Las Vegas. Vásquez pitched in 5 games (4 starts) with Double-A Frisco before being called up on June 6. He went 1-2 with the RoughRiders, allowing a 6.11 ERA. Vásquez played in la Liga Mexicana de Béisbol in 2018 for los Algodoneros de Unión Laguna. He pitched 16 games in relief and went 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA (14.0 IP/4 ER). In his major league career, Vásquez is 5-12 with a 4.86 ERA in 147 games (6 starts) between Arizona and Minnesota. Texas signed him as a minor league free agent on March 10 2019. Vásquez was originially signed as a nondrafted free agent by Arizona on March 2, 2003.

Can't Get Out: Outfielder Scott Heineman has now reached base safely in eight straight plate appearances after going 3-for-3 last night with a two-run homer and a walk. He has now recorded three 3-hit games in his last six games and tied a career-high with 3 walks in one of those games as well. He has extended his on-base streak to 15 games, tied for the 5th-longest among active Pacific Coast League hitters. In the span, he is hitting .421 (24-for-57) with 14 runs, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 10 RBI and 11 walks (.507 OBP).

Out of Left Field: The Sounds have found great production from their players that have played left field this season. As a team, Nashville left fielders lead the PCL in that position with a .350 average (122-for-350) and are 3rd in OPS (.944). Zack Granite is given the most credit for this stat, hitting .379 (55-for-145). On top of that, Carlos Tocci has hit his best playing in the 7-position, hitting .386 (17-for-44) and part of Scott Heineman's hot streak has been there too (.424, 14-for-33). Willie Calhoun made 98 at bats from earlier in the season and hit .316 (31 hits).

Rubber Bandy: Jett Bandy launched his ninth home run of the season last night. That home run was the 100th on the season for the Sounds. He has played well in the past month, hitting .274 (17-for-62) with 11 runs, 3 doubles, 3 home runs, and 12 RBI in 18 games since June 5. Bandy also remains among league leaders in catching runners stealing, ranking 3rd in the league with 14.

One at a Time: Besides the monster 12-run inning on July 3 versus Oklahoma City, Scott Heineman's two-run home run last night resulted in the first multi-run inning since July 2. The Sounds started July with a 3-0 record but have since dropped to 3-3.
