Nailers to Honor Everyday Heroes
November 23, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
New in 2011, the Wheeling Nailers, AA Affiliate for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are excited to launch an initiative aimed at recognizing those in the community that go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others. These "Everyday Heroes" might be your neighbor, your teacher, or a family member. Day in and day out, they strive to make the community a better place; knowing that a little can mean a whole lot.
There is no true definition of an Everyday Hero, but you know when you are lucky enough to have one in your life. This person might volunteer their free time to a soup kitchen, an animal shelter, or homeless shelter. They might work around the clock as a firefighter, an EMT, or a police officer, ensuring the safety of all. They might take care of an elderly parent or a small child because nobody else can. What separates everyday heroes from ordinary people is their selflessness and the sacrifices they make for something bigger than oneself.
The Nailers are dedicated to the Greater Wheeling area and are focusing their efforts on programs that assist in the development of the community and its youth, using the sport of hockey to touch as many lives as possible. The Wheeling Nailers will be recognizing three everyday heroes in the community. You can submit yourself as a candidate, or you can submit someone that you believe deserves the credit for all of the hard work they put in on a daily basis. It's up to you.
Everyday heroes winners will be honored with a prize pack that the Nailers believe is worthy of all that person does, and one that aims to spread the act of giving back to the community.
Honorees will receive:
- 10 tickets good for any game during the 2011-2012 Nailers season
- Wheeling Nailers Autograph Stick
- Wheeling Nailers Merchandise
- Dinner for two at River City
- On-Ice Recognition
- Sit on Nailers bench during pre-game warm-ups (good for two)
- Two seats in sky box for Everyday Hero game
The Nailers will be honoring Everyday Heroes three times this season, starting with the December 10th game against the Trenton Titans at 7:35. Winners will be notified one week prior to the game night when they will be honored.
Other Everyday Hero Nights will take place on:
-Friday, February 10th vs. Toledo Walleye
-Friday, March 23rd vs. Cincinnati Cyclones
There are three ways to submit your story for yourself or someone you know:
- Become a friend of the Nailers on Facebook, and send a message with your name, phone number, and email address, as well as the reason you or someone you know should be recognized as an Everyday Hero. If you are submitting on someone else's behalf, please include their name, phone number, and email as well.
