November 23, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
Garry Nunn completed an Alaska Aces comeback with the game winning goal 1:45 into overtime, as the Aces erased a two-goal, third period deficit to beat the Bakersfield Condors 4-3 on Tuesday night. The Aces scored three third period goals, and added an overtime winner to give them a 2-0-1 record through three games on the road trip. Alaska earned points for the seventh time in the last eight games, and improved to 11-4-1 on the season with an ECHL-leading 23 points. The Aces head to Stockton to continue their road trip on Wednesday night. They return to the Sullivan Arena on December 7th. Bakersfield took the first lead of the game when Matt Marquardt knocked home a rebound from just outside the crease at 11:26 of the first period. Both teams had nine shots on goal in the opening period.
The Condors extended their lead to 2-0 in the second when Matthew Sisca took a feed at the bottom of the slot and scored at 6:44. The goal came just seconds after Alaska had killed off an extended five-on-three Condors power play. Both teams had 15 shots on goal, and Alaska went into the final period trailing 2-0.
The Aces came out and changed the game in the third. Brian Swanson started the comeback with his first goal of the season at 1:20 after a great play by Tyler Ruegsegger. Wes Goldie then scored on a rebound at 5:28 to tie the score 2-2. Sisca reclaimed the lead for Bakersfield at 10:09 with his second of the night from the low slot, but Alaska yet again responded when Dan Kissel scored at 14:22. That set the scene for Nunn's heorics, as he walked into the Bakersfield zone, and roofed a shot from the right circle to give the Aces the 4-3 comeback win.
Gerald Coleman (11-3) earned the win, making 27 saves on 30 shots, and Matt Keetley (3-5-1) made 33 saves on 37 shots, suffering the loss. The Aces power play went 0-4, while the Condors went 0-3. Alaska outshot Bakersfield 37-30 in the game.
The Aces head to Stockton to continue their road trip on Wednesday night. They return to the Sullivan Arena on December 7th. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
