Nailers Take Game One in Overtime

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (0-1) erased two two-goal deficits, but could not hold off the Wheeling Nailers (1-0) falling 4-3 in overtime in Game One of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday night.

The Nailers grabbed a quick 2-0 lead within in the first six minutes of the first period behind two goals from forward Joey Haddad. Haddad opened the scoring on the power play at 2:31 deflecting a shot from defenseman Zach Hansen past Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford. Forward Paul Crowder earned the second assist. He quickly buried his second of the postseason unassisted at 5:10. Stingrays forward Trent Campbell cut the lead in half at 8:36 sliding a rebound under the pad of Nailers netminder Peter Delmas from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Defenseman Derek Keller and forward Brock McBride registered assists.

Defenseman Alex Grant reclaimed a two-goal lead for the Nailers at 5:21 of the second frame blasting a shot over the glove of Ford from the left-wing point. Forward Tim Crowder received the lone assist. Stingrays forward Matt Scherer pulled the contest back within one at the 7:00 mark from defensemen Dylan Yeo and Patrick Cullity. Campbell tied the game moments later beating Delmas off the right post at 10:23 from Keller and forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien.

Forward Andrew Orpik sealed the victory for the Nailers in overtime at 5:50 from defenseman Kyle Bushee.

Ford suffered the loss stopping 26 of 30 Nailers shots. Delmas picked up the victory blocking 30 of 33 Stingrays chances. The Nailers finished the night 1-for-4 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-7.
