Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals fell in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals to the Greenville Road Warriors on Tuesday night at First Arena, 5-2. With the victory, Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Jimmy Kilpatrick started the scoring by banging a puck in from the left circle on a feed from Wes Cunningham for a power-play goal at 6:58 of the first to put Greenville up 1-0.
Shane Harper fanned on a wraparound bid from behind the net, but Brandon Wong was in good position in the slot to knock in the loose puck on a man advantage to extend the Road Warriors' lead to 2-0 at 14:04 of the first.
At 2:53 of the second, Eric Lampe found Justin Donati in front of the net, and Donati snapped the puck into the gaping goal to bring Elmira to within a goal, 2-1.
Brendan Connolly backhanded a puck in off of a scramble in front while falling down at 9:27 of the second to give Greenville a two-goal lead again, 3-1.
Mark Voakes drove in a puck from the top of the right circle at 19:04 on the power play to garner a 4-1 lead for Greenville after two.
Josh Brittain took a Dale Mahovsky pass in front and wristed a puck past Road Warriors netminder Nic Riopel to cut Elmira's deficit to two, 4-2, at 5:40 of the third.
Marc-Olivier Vallerand sealed the game with an empty netter with just under 16 seconds to go in the game, and Greenville took the 1-0 series lead with a 5-2 win.
Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau took the loss, stopping 23 of 27 shots. Riopel made 30 saves on 32 shots for the victory.
