Wheeling Nailers News Release

READING, PA - Life on the road has been simply splendid for the Wheeling Nailers over the past month or so, and the Reading Royals found that out the hard way this weekend. Wheeling went in to Santander Arena and swept a pair of games from the Royals, winning 7-4 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday, as they improved to 10-1-1 in their last 12 games outside of West Virginia. Clark Seymour scored twice on Saturday, while Adam Krause netted the eventual winning tally with 11:34 remaining in the third period.

Both teams found the back of the net in the first period, with the two goals coming 3:49 apart from one another. Wheeling got on the scoreboard first at the 12:42 mark, when Riley Brace teed up a one-timer for Clark Seymour, who powered his slap shot into the right side of the net. Reading's answer came off of an extended period in the offensive zone. Cam Reid took the puck off of the right wall, centering a pass to Yannick Tifu, who simply had to keep his stick on the ice in order to score with a redirection.

One goal was scored in the second period, and it came during a stretch of 4-on-4 play during the closing minutes of the stanza. Cody Wydo led the rush down the left side of the ice, before centering a pass through the slot. Mathew Maione was the recipient, who danced toward the middle, then slipped a shot around Alex Vazzano's outstretched stick.

Early in the third period, the Nailers added a pair of critical insurance markers, upping their advantage to three. The third goal for the visitors came at the 1:02 mark of the stanza, when Clark Seymour let a wrist shot go from the middle of the blueline on the power play, finding the twine for his second of the evening. 7:24 later, Riley Brace whipped a shot just wide of the left post, but the rebound sat behind the net, where Adam Krause pounced on it, and turned a backhander into the goal. Reading attempted to battle back, first using a power play goal from Joey Sides with 5:07 to go, when he speared a loose puck under Franky Palazzese and in over the goal line. Brandon Alderson cut the margin to one with less than two seconds remaining, as Wheeling ended up protecting the lead for a 4-3 final score and a second straight triumph.

Franky Palazzese won his ninth consecutive road game in goal for Wheeling, as he denied 25 of the 28 shots he faced. Alex Vazzano was the losing goalie for Reading, as he allowed four goals on 22 shots.

The Nailers will begin a four-game homestand on Tuesday night, when they take on the Brampton Beast at 7:05. Fans with tickets from January 22nd or 24th will have those tickets honored on Tuesday. In addition, McDonald's $5 Kids Tickets will be available. Other highlight games on the homestand include Duck Dynasty Night Starring Si Robertson on Saturday, as well as Pups 'N Pucks and Mascot Mania on Sunday.
