Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, IDAHO - Joe Basaraba, for the second night in a row, scored the game-winning goal in the third period, and goaltender Phillippe Derosier stopped 26 Alaska shots as the Idaho Steelheads edged the Aces 2-1 Saturday at the CenturyLink Arena.

A scoreless first period of play saw both teams with opportunities, but not necessarily dangerous opportunities. Goaltenders Jacob DeSerres of Alaska and Derosiers of Idaho were perfect...shots on goal were even at 9-9.

The second period was also scoreless. Both teams enjoyed some powerplay time, but there were surprisingly few obvious scoring opportunities. Alaska outshot Idaho 10-5 in the period, and led 19-14 after two.

In the third, Idaho's Rob Linsmayer opened the scoring at 3:39, punching in a short-side shot to the right of DeSerres, his 15th goal of the season. Kyle Jean and Tommy Fallen with the assists.

The Steelheads would make it 2-0 on Basaraba's backhand, top-shelf goal at 12:48. It was his 8th goal of the season, and the second consecutive game he's picked up the game-winning goal. Carson McMillan and Corbin Baldwin picked up assists.

Alaska would cut the lead in half on Peter Sivak's 17th goal of the season, a well-placed wrister that beat Derosiers clean. An assist was credited to William Wrenn.

The Aces would push for the tying goal late by pulling DeSerres for an extra attacker, but the Idaho defense thwarted the effort.

DeSerres finished with 19 saves, Derosiers 26 as Alaska outshot Idaho 27-21 for the game.

The loss completed the Aces nine-game road trip through the West Division, going 1-8 on the swing.

Alaska returns to action Wednesday at home against Fort Wayne at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena on Wednesday, March 9 against Ft. Wayne.
