
Walleye Comeback Falls Short in Florida 4-3

(Estero, FLA) Toledo scored twice in the third period but fell the Everblades 4-3 Saturday night in Florida. Toledo has an overall record of 37-15-2-3 and 15-10-2-2 on the road. The loss snapped a season high seven game winning streak.
For a third straight game, the Walleye struck first as Evan Rankin (9th) blocked a shot at his own blue line, raced up the ice and beat Everblades goaltender Anthony Peters with a wrist shot past the blocker. Florida would not only tie the game at one but they took their first lead of the three game series with a goal at 17:19 of the period.
In the second frame, Florida continued to find the back of the net with a goal just 1:56 into the period. Forward Matt Marquart beat Jeff Lerg with a wrist shot from the left circle at 16:56 to push Florida's lead to 4-1 after the second period.
Toledo started to mount a comeback when Kyle Bonis (7th) fired a wrist shot into the back of the net at 3:01 of the third period. The power play goal pulled the Walleye to within two of tying the Everblades. Zach Nastasiuk made it a one goal game at 12:29 with his 10th goal of the year.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg turned aside 25 of the 29 shots he faced and he has a record of 23-7-1-2 on the season. The loss snapped a string of three consecutive wins for Lerg. Toledo's power play finished 1-3 on the power play.
