Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced that they have signed forward Milos Bubela to an ECHL contract.
Bubela, 24, attended training camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and is set to embark on his first full professional season with the Nailers. Milos got a taste of the pro game at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, when he appeared in eight games with the AHL's Utica Comets. The forward made his debut on March 19th against the Albany Devils, then picked up his lone point with an assist on the eventual game winning goal in a March 26th clash with the Binghamton Senators.
Prior to turning pro, the Banska Bystrica, Slovakia native attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for four years. During his time on the ice with the Engineers, Bubela appeared in 139 games, amassing 33 goals, 30 assists, 63 points, and 155 penalty minutes. Milos' two most productive seasons came during his freshman and senior years, when he compiled 19 points. He set his career high in goals as a senior in 2015-16 with 13. Bubela also played one season of junior hockey with the USHL's Dubuque Fighting Saints. There, he produced five goals, 13 assists, and 18 points in 29 games during the 2011-12 season. Milos also played for Slovakia during the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship.
Milos Bubela and the Nailers will play on home ice twice this weekend, starting on Saturday night at 7:05 against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The first 2,500 fans in attendance that night will receive a Spike Eastern Conference Champions Bobblehead, courtesy of WesBanco. Additionally, 98.7 Country WOVK presents the annual Teddy Bear Toss, there will be Carenbauer Craft Beer Tasting, and XTO Blades for Grades. The two teams will then meet again on Sunday at 5:05 for a Family Funday, featuring McDonald's $6 kids tickets and a post game skate with the team. The first celebrity appearance of the season takes place the following week on December 3rd, when Clint Hurdle comes to town for Pittsburgh Pirates Night.
