Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. -The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, proudly celebrating our 10th season in the ECHL, announced they have made a successful waiver claim and signed forward J.P. LaFontaine .
LaFontaine, 24, is in his second professional season, after winning the Kelly Cup with the Allen Americans in 2015-16 . In nine games in Allen this season, the Oxford, Michigan native had three points (1g, 2a) and a +5 rating.
The 5-foot-10, 172-pound forward had 20 points (5g, 15a) in 60 regular season games with the Americans last season. He then added seven points (1g, 6a) in 22 playoff games as he helped Allen win the Kelly Cup.
LaFontaine, the nephew of former Buffalo Sabres captain Pat LaFontaine, played his college hockey at Minnesota State-Mankato from 2011 to 2015, where he put up 127 points (48g, 79a) in 156 games and helped the team reach the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons (2013, 2014, 2015). LaFontaine spent one season in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers in 2010-11.
